Description
Zimbabwe 2008 50,000 Dollars Pick 74a Plain Paper PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated
This Zimbabwe Reserve Bank 2008 50,000 Dollars banknote is Pick P-74a, certified by PMG as 64 Choice Uncirculated. The PMG holder identifies this variety as Plain Paper, records serial number AC4683355, and attributes Signature #8. No EPQ designation is shown on the holder, so the certification is accurately represented as PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated.
The face features the familiar balancing rocks motif that became a defining image of Zimbabwean paper money, accompanied by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe title and the denomination 50,000 Dollars. Green printing dominates the design, supplemented by pale yellow, blue, and pink security patterns. The denomination appears repeatedly in both numerals and words, while the right side contains the serial number and additional security features.
The reverse emphasizes Zimbabwe’s agricultural economy. One vignette depicts mechanized cultivation in a field, while another shows a worker using agricultural equipment. These scenes place productive labor and farming at the center of the design, contrasting with the extraordinary nominal values that were becoming necessary as Zimbabwe’s currency rapidly lost purchasing power.
This note belongs to Zimbabwe’s 2008 hyperinflation period, when escalating prices forced the Reserve Bank to issue successively larger denominations over increasingly short intervals. The 50,000-dollar denomination formed part of this rapidly expanding sequence before values climbed into the millions, billions, and eventually trillions. As a result, notes from the period provide a vivid monetary record of how quickly inflation can render conventional denominations impractical.
The holder’s Plain Paper attribution is an important variety detail and should be retained exactly when identifying this piece. Together with Pick P-74a, Signature #8, and the PMG grade, it precisely distinguishes this example within the 2008 50,000-dollar issue.
Certified PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated, this example combines attractive certified preservation with a clearly identified plain-paper variety and direct historical association with one of the best-known modern hyperinflation episodes. It is especially suitable for collections of Zimbabwe paper money, hyperinflation banknotes, African currency, graded world notes, and modern economic-history issues.
