Description

This complete 6-note set from the Islamic Republic of Iran (2019–2023) offers a fascinating look at a nation in monetary transition. As inflation impacted the Rial, the Central Bank of Iran began a "redenomination" project to switch the national currency to the Toman (where 10,000 Rials = 1 Toman).

These "Interim" or "New Generation" banknotes are historic for their unique design feature: Faded Zeros. The faint zeros on the face value highlight the new "Toman" value, bridging the gap between the old system and the new. This set includes the massive denomination "Iran Cheques" (500k and 1 Million), which function as circulating cash.

Condition: Crisp Uncirculated (UNC) - Fresh from original bundles.

Set Includes:

  • 10,000 Rials (1 Toman)

    • Front: Portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini.

    • Back: The Avicenna Mausoleum in Hamedan, dedicated to the famous Persian polymath and physician.

    • Highlight: The "10,000" is printed so the "1" is prominent, signifying 1 Toman.

  • 20,000 Rials (2 Tomans)

    • Front: Portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini.

    • Back: The Mausoleum of Poets (Maqbaratoshoara) in Tabriz, a resting place for over 400 poets, mystics, and scholars.

    • Highlight: Vivid blue/green security thread and watermarks.

  • 50,000 Rials (5 Tomans)

    • Front: Portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini.

    • Back: The Tomb of Hafez (Hafezieh) in Shiraz. Hafez is one of the most celebrated Persian poets in history.

    • Highlight: Distinctive orange and violet hues with the "5" highlighted.

  • 100,000 Rials (10 Tomans)

    • Front: Portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini.

    • Back: The Tomb of Saadi in Shiraz, honoring the major Persian poet of the medieval period.

    • Highlight: As one of the highest standard banknotes, it completes the lower denomination run.

  • 500,000 Rials (50 Tomans) – Iran Cheque

    • Front: The golden dome of the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.

    • Back: Mount Damavand, the highest peak in Iran and the Middle East, symbolizing stability.

    • Highlight: Technically a "Cheque" used as cash. The number "50" is prominent, preparing the public for a future 50-Toman note.

  • 1,000,000 Rials (100 Tomans) – Iran Cheque

    • Front: The Fatima Masumeh Shrine in Qom.

    • Back: The South Pars Gas Field, representing Iran's industrial and natural resources.

    • Highlight: The largest denomination in this set. A true hyperinflation artifact featuring advanced security threads and color-shifting ink.

Collector's Note

This set is highly sought after by collectors of "Hyperinflation Money" (similar to Zimbabwe or Venezuela sets) and modern world history. It captures the exact moment a country's currency began to evolve, making it a powerful educational piece and investment.
