Description
ND (1974-79) Iran 1000 Rials PMG 64 EPQ Pick 105b Young Shah Pahlavi Bank Markazi Note
Offered here is a handsome Iran, Bank Markazi 1000 Rials note, cataloged as Pick 105b, dated ND (1974-79) and certified by PMG as Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. Printed by TDLR, this issue features the widely collected Young Shah Pahlavi watermark type and signature #16, with serial number 192/468248. It is an attractive pre-Revolution Iranian banknote from the final royal era, a period especially popular with world currency collectors for its elegant design and historical importance.
This is an authentic official issue of Bank Markazi Iran, preserved in a PMG holder with the coveted EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) designation. That certification confirms strong originality of the paper and gives collectors added confidence in both authenticity and quality. Notes from this late Pahlavi period are especially sought after because they represent the closing chapter of Imperial Iranian paper money before the political transformation of 1979 reshaped the nation’s currency.
The design is particularly appealing. The obverse presents a formal portrait of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi at right, framed by ornate Persian ornament and soft multicolor underprinting. At lower center is the beautifully rendered winged mythological creature motif, which gives the note an added sense of artistry and symbolism. The color palette of rose, tan, pale green, gold, and light blue creates refined eye appeal, while the detailed calligraphy and intricate security-style engraving reflect the high production standards of the era.
The reverse is equally impressive, featuring a graceful architectural pavilion scene paired with floral ornament and another elegant mythological figure. The overall composition is balanced and sophisticated, making this one of the more visually attractive modern Iranian issues. The note combines royal portraiture, Persian decorative tradition, and fine engraving in a format that displays beautifully both in hand and in a certified holder.
As a cataloged Pick 105b example in PMG 64 EPQ, this note offers a strong combination of grade, originality, and historical appeal. Collectors of Iranian, Middle Eastern, and world paper money often seek Shah portrait notes because they capture a vanished era of Iranian history and remain among the most recognizable and desirable designs of the region.
Collector’s Value
Certified pre-Revolution Iranian notes with EPQ status continue to attract collectors for their beauty, history, and growing demand. This PMG 64 EPQ example offers the desirable Young Shah portrait, strong originality, and elegant design in a highly collectible format, making it an excellent addition to any world banknote or Iranian currency collection.
