Description
ND (1974-79) Iran 1000 Rials Consecutive Pair PMG 66 EPQ & 64 EPQ Pick 105b Young Shah
Offered here is an appealing consecutive pair of Iran, Bank Markazi 1000 Rials notes, cataloged as Pick 105b, dated ND (1974-79) and printed by TDLR. Both notes feature the portrait of the Young Shah Pahlavi and are preserved in premium PMG holders, with one graded Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ and the other Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. The pair bears consecutive serial numbers 126/338393 and 126/338392, an attractive feature that adds collectibility and presentation value.
These notes are official issues from the late Pahlavi period, a historically important era in Iranian paper money before the dramatic political changes of 1979. Banknotes from this final royal period are widely sought after for their strong portraiture, elegant Persian ornamental design, and connection to the closing chapter of Imperial Iran. As such, they appeal not only to world banknote collectors, but also to specialists in Middle Eastern and pre-Revolution Iranian currency.
The obverse design is especially attractive, combining a formal portrait of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi with intricate decorative scrollwork and a beautifully rendered mythological winged creature at lower center. Soft shades of rose, tan, pale green, and gold create refined eye appeal, while the Persian script and detailed engraving give the note a distinctly sophisticated character. The reverse features a graceful architectural scene centered on a pavilion, paired with floral ornament and additional mythical imagery, all executed in harmonious multicolor printing.
From an authenticity standpoint, both notes have been certified by PMG, one of the most respected third-party grading services in numismatics. Each note also carries the coveted EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) designation, confirming strong originality and premium paper quality. That combination of certification, originality, and eye appeal is particularly desirable for collectors seeking problem-free modern world notes in higher grades.
This pair is made even more desirable by the consecutive serial numbers. Consecutive pairs are often separated over time, making intact matched examples increasingly difficult to obtain. With both notes certified at strong uncirculated levels, this offering presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a matched pair from one of the most popular and visually appealing Iranian Shah portrait issues.
Collector’s Value
Consecutive pairs of pre-Revolution Iranian banknotes are always in demand, especially when both notes are PMG certified and carry EPQ designations. This pair offers historical significance, elegant design, consecutive-number appeal, and strong uncirculated grades, making it a standout addition for collectors of Iranian, Middle Eastern, and world paper money.
