ND (1974-79) Iran 100 Rials PMG 66 EPQ Pick 102a Young Shah Pahlavi Gem Uncirculated

Offered here is an attractive Iran, Bank Markazi 100 Rials note, cataloged as Pick 102a, dated ND (1974-79) and certified by PMG as Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. Printed by TDLR, this beautifully preserved issue features the Young Shah Pahlavi watermark type, signature #15, and serial number 15/934143. It is a high-grade example from the final royal era of Iranian paper money, a period especially admired by collectors for its elegant designs and historical importance.

This is an authentic official issue of Bank Markazi Iran, encapsulated by PMG with the coveted EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) designation. That added designation is especially meaningful to collectors, as it confirms the note retains strong originality and premium paper quality. For collectors of Iranian and Middle Eastern banknotes, notes from the late Pahlavi period are highly desirable because they represent the final chapter of pre-Revolution Iranian currency.

The obverse features a finely engraved portrait of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi at right, framed by ornate Persian-style design work and delicate multicolor underprinting. The decorative elements are refined and balanced, with floral motifs and intricate geometric patterns complementing the regal portrait. The soft palette of rose, lavender, green, and tan gives the note a sophisticated visual appeal, while the crisp layout reflects the high standards of security printing associated with the period.

The reverse is equally elegant, depicting a beautifully rendered architectural building beneath a domed roof, accompanied by floral ornamentation and the bold 100 rials denomination. The design is restrained yet graceful, blending formal architectural imagery with subtle decorative detail in a way that makes this type especially attractive for display. As with many Iranian notes of the era, the overall presentation combines royal symbolism, national identity, and refined engraving into a distinctly memorable design.

As a Pick 102a example in PMG 66 EPQ, this note offers an excellent combination of grade, originality, and eye appeal. Gem examples of Shah-era Iranian issues are always sought after, particularly when they feature strong color, premium certification, and the popular royal portrait type.

Collector’s Value
High-grade pre-Revolution Iranian notes continue to gain attention for their beauty, history, and strong collector appeal. This PMG 66 EPQ example offers an impressive grade, excellent originality, and a classic Young Shah portrait design, making it a standout addition to any collection of Iranian, Middle Eastern, or world paper money.
