Description

2021 Venezuela 5 Bolivar Digital (5 Million) Set of 10 UNC P-115 Hyperinflation Notes

Offered here is a set of 10 brand new, uncirculated 5 Bolívares Digitales banknotes, all from the 2021 “bolívar digital” issue of the Banco Central de Venezuela. These notes are catalogued as Pick 115 (P-115) and are commonly referred to as “5,000,000 bolivares” because each new 5 bolívar note replaced 5,000,000 old bolívares soberanos after the 2021 redenomination.

On 1 October 2021, Venezuela launched the bolívar digital (VED) and cut six zeros from the previous bolívar soberano at a rate of 1 bolívar digital = 1,000,000 bolívares soberanos. That means:

  • Each note = 5 bolívares digitales = 5,000,000 old VES (soberanos)

  • This 10-note set represents the equivalent of 50,000,000 (fifty million) pre-redenomination bolívares in face value

A compact, very visual snapshot of Venezuela’s ongoing hyperinflation and currency reforms.

Historical significance – the first bolívar digital series

The 5 bolívares note is part of the first family of bolívar digital banknotes, introduced when Venezuela redenominated its currency for the third time since 2008 to simplify skyrocketing prices and unwieldy numbers. Removing six zeros turned millions into simple units again, but these notes still carry the memory of the hyperinflation that required such drastic measures.

As one of only three denominations in the inaugural digital set (5, 10, and 20 bolívares digitales), the 5 Bs note is a key type for documenting this latest chapter in Venezuelan monetary history.

Design & security features

Obverse – Simón Bolívar (vertical design)

  • Vertically oriented front featuring a detailed portrait of Simón Bolívar, “El Libertador,” the national hero whose campaigns helped free much of northern South America.

  • Legends include “República Bolivariana de Venezuela” and “Cinco Bolívares”, with the large numeral “5” clearly displayed.

  • Printed mainly in brown / earth-tone colors, with intricate guilloche patterns, microtext, and fine line work forming a modern, “digital” style background.

  • Security elements include see-through registration, fine micro-printing, and fluorescent features that react under UV light.

Reverse – Independence & Carabobo theme

  • Horizontal reverse showing the Triumphal Arch at Campo de Carabobo and related imagery commemorating the Battle of Carabobo (1821), the decisive engagement in Venezuela’s war of independence.

  • The national coat of arms appears alongside the monument, reinforcing the patriotic theme.

  • Complex geometric patterns, repeating “5” and “5 Bs” counters, and subtle color shifts help thwart counterfeiting while tying the note visually to the rest of the 2021 series.

Remarkable denomination – “5,000,000” compressed into one note

While the face value reads simply 5 bolívares, in practical terms each note encapsulates five million of the previous bolívar soberano units. When you consider all three redenominations since 2008, it represents an almost astronomical number of original bolívares—making this small brown note a powerful illustration of how far the currency has been devalued.

Your set of 10 notes therefore condenses an eye-popping 50,000,000 “old” VES into a neat, collectible stack of ten crisp bills.

Collector’s value

For collectors of hyperinflation money, modern world notes, or Latin American monetary history, this 10-piece UNC set is a perfect way to represent Venezuela’s 2021 currency reform without needing a full bundle. The combination of Simón Bolívar’s portrait, the Carabobo independence imagery, and the dramatic 5,000,000-to-1 redenomination factor makes these notes excellent conversation pieces. With ten fresh examples, you can keep a couple for your main album and still have extras for trading, teaching, or gifting to fellow collectors interested in extreme inflation eras.
