Description

2020 Venezuela 200,000 Bolivares Soberano Set of 10 UNC P-112 Hyperinflation Notes

This listing is for a set of 10 brand-new, uncirculated 200,000 bolívares soberanos banknotes, all from the 2020 issue of the Banco Central de Venezuela. These are the high-denomination Bs.200.000 notes of the bolívar soberano (VES) era, catalogued as Pick 112.

Introduced in September 2020, the 200,000-bolívar note was part of an emergency expansion of the sovereign-bolívar series as prices soared during Venezuela’s prolonged hyperinflation. Just one year later, in October 2021, the currency was redenominated again into the bolívar digital, with 1 digital bolívar = 1,000,000 soberanos—meaning each of these notes now represents 0.2 new bolívar digital, or 200,000 “old” VES in historic terms.

Design & security features

Obverse – Simón Bolívar (vertical layout)

  • Vertical orientation featuring a detailed portrait of Simón Bolívar (1783–1830), “El Libertador,” the independence leader whose campaigns liberated much of northern South America.

  • Additional design elements include a running horse and a BCV registration device; fine guilloche patterns and microtext run through the background in dark green-gray tones.

  • Legends read “República Bolivariana de Venezuela” and “200 000 Bolívares”, with the denomination printed in large numerals in several positions.

  • Security features for this type include watermark of Bolívar with electrotype “BCV”, see-through registration, latent image, and fluorescent features visible under UV light.

Reverse – Arco de Triunfo & Battle of Carabobo

  • Horizontal reverse centered on the Arco de Triunfo (Triumphal Arch) at Campo de Carabobo, erected on the site of the Battle of Carabobo (1821), the decisive victory that secured Venezuela’s independence.

  • To the side appears the national coat of arms and a vignette derived from Martín Tovar y Tovar’s painting “Batalla de Carabobo”, tying the banknote directly to the nation’s most celebrated military triumph.

  • Dense line engraving, geometric patterns, and repeating “200 000” counters enhance both security and visual impact.

Remarkable denomination & hyperinflation context

With a face value of 200,000 bolívares soberanos, this note was a response to prices that had rendered earlier denominations almost meaningless. By late 2020, Venezuela had already undergone one major redenomination (from bolívar fuerte to bolívar soberano at 100,000:1 in 2018) and was heading toward another in 2021.

For perspective:

  • 1 bolívar soberano = 100,000 bolívares fuertes (2008–2018)

  • 1 bolívar digital (2021– ) = 1,000,000 bolívares soberanos

So this set of ten 200,000-bolívar notes embodies a staggering number of pre-reform units and is a powerful physical snapshot of modern hyperinflation.

Collector’s value

For collectors of world currency and monetary history, this 10-note UNC set offers an affordable yet historically rich group from the heart of Venezuela’s inflation crisis. The combination of Bolívar’s heroic portrait, the Carabobo triumphal arch, and the huge printed denomination makes these notes perfect for educational displays, comparison with later “bolívar digital” issues, or as trading fodder within a hyperinflation or Latin-American themed collection. Having a matched group of ten crisp notes gives you plenty of flexibility—keep some pristine in your album and use the rest as eye-catching gifts, swaps, or teaching pieces.
