Description
1993 Yugoslavia 500 Million Dinars PMG 67 EPQ P-134 Superb Gem Unc Hyperinflation Note
Presented here is a 1993 Yugoslavia 500,000,000 (500 Million) Dinars banknote, graded PMG 67 EPQ Superb Gem Uncirculated, catalogued as Pick #134. This extraordinary note is a product of one of the most infamous hyperinflationary periods in world history, when the Yugoslav dinar lost value at a staggering pace and new denominations were issued almost monthly.
The obverse features a portrait of Jovan Cvijić (1865–1927), a Serbian geographer and scientist whose work on the Balkans brought him international recognition. The reverse depicts Kapetan Mišino Zdanje (Captain Miša’s Mansion) in Belgrade, an iconic 19th-century building that has long been associated with education and national heritage. A diamond-pattern watermark provides anti-counterfeit security.
Issued by the National Bank of Yugoslavia, this note represents the transitional stage of hyperinflation—large enough to be astonishing, but soon to be dwarfed by billion- and trillion-denominated notes that followed.
This example is especially desirable thanks to its PMG 67 EPQ grade, placing it at the very top of the population census. The Exceptional Paper Quality designation confirms originality, crispness, and flawless preservation, with vibrant colors, sharp corners, and superb overall eye appeal.
Collector’s Value:
Hyperinflation notes from Yugoslavia are among the most collected modern banknotes, serving as vivid reminders of extreme economic instability. The 500 Million Dinar note occupies an important place in the sequence of ever-spiraling denominations, and in PMG 67 EPQ Superb Gem Uncirculated, it is a trophy piece for serious collectors of world currency, Balkan history, and hyperinflation artifacts.
