Description
1990 China 2 Yuan Set of 10 Consecutive Notes Crisp Uncirculated P-884 Rare UNC
Offered here is a set of 10 Crisp Uncirculated banknotes, each with a face value of 2 Yuan, issued by the People’s Bank of China in 1990. Catalogued as Pick 884, this denomination belongs to the Fourth Series of the Renminbi (RMB), which was in circulation from 1987 until it was gradually withdrawn in the early 2000s. Today, the 2 Yuan note is obsolete in circulation, making surviving UNC sets highly collectible.
Design & Features:
-
Obverse (Front): Features portraits of two women in traditional dress representing China’s ethnic minorities—the Miao (θζ) and the Dong (δΎζ). The intricate patterns reflect cultural diversity and national unity.
-
Reverse (Back): Depicts a striking coastal scene of the South China Sea, with crashing waves and rocky outcrops. This imagery symbolizes China’s natural power and maritime heritage.
-
Text: “ZHONGGUO RENMIN YINHANG” (People’s Bank of China) appears across the top, along with denomination inscriptions in Chinese, Pinyin (ER YUAN), and minority scripts including Tibetan, Uyghur, Mongolian, and Zhuang.
-
Security Features: Watermark of denomination numeral, fine-line engraving, and traditional guilloche designs.
Historical Significance:
The Fourth Series of the Renminbi was issued during China’s rapid modernization period and represents one of the last series printed before the introduction of modern polymer-style security features in the 21st century. The 2 Yuan denomination was discontinued, and UNC notes are increasingly difficult to find in original consecutive sets.
