Description

1989 Singapore $5 Ship Series Full Pack 100 Consecutive Notes Crisp UNC BCCS

Presented here is a complete original pack of 100 consecutive Crisp Uncirculated notes from the Singapore $5 Ship Series, issued in 1989 by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore (BCCS). Still sealed with its official BCCS band, this untouched pack is a rare survivor of Singapore’s most iconic banknote family.

Design & Features:

  • Obverse (Front): Features the national Coat of Arms, denomination, and the traditional Twakow boat, a small wooden vessel once common in Singapore’s rivers and harbors. This ship design highlights the series’ theme of Singapore’s maritime heritage and its evolution into a major port.

  • Reverse (Back): Depicts the PSA Container Terminal, a symbol of Singapore’s transformation into one of the busiest ports in the world. To the side, the Merlion—Singapore’s national icon—overlooks the port.

  • Security Features: Fine guilloche patterns, intaglio printing, microtext, and fluorescent features under UV light.

Historical Significance:
The Ship Series is one of Singapore’s most celebrated banknote families, introduced in 1984 to honor the nation’s deep maritime roots. Each denomination featured a different vessel paired with a national landmark or symbol of progress. The $5 note, with its juxtaposition of a traditional Twakow boat and the modern container terminal, perfectly captures Singapore’s economic transformation in the late 20th century.

Collector’s Value:
Original full UNC packs of Ship Series notes are now extremely scarce, especially with the official BCCS wrapper still intact. This 1989 pack of $5 notes offers both historical and numismatic value, making it a highly desirable acquisition for collectors of Singapore banknotes, Ship Series enthusiasts, and those seeking investment-grade bundles.
