1986 Overstruck Silver Eagle Design 1 oz DC Dollar ANACS MS70 Roman Date

This uniquely crafted fantasy issue coin features the 1986 American Silver Eagle design—reimagined in a brilliant overstrike format and authenticated by ANACS with a perfect MS70 grade. Struck using 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the coin replicates the iconic visuals of the original Silver Eagle but includes artistic liberties and numismatic flair that set it apart.

The obverse showcases Adolph A. Weinman’s legendary Walking Liberty, a timeless image originally used on the U.S. Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947 and later revived for the Silver Eagle series. Liberty strides toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag, with “MCMLXXXVI” (1986 in Roman numerals) at the base, giving the coin a classical and unconventional twist.

The reverse features the classic heraldic eagle by John Mercanti, grasping arrows and an olive branch beneath 13 stars, symbolizing strength and unity. It reads:
“UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - 1 OZ. FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR”, a nod to the classic bullion coin even though this is a non-government-issued overstrike piece.

What makes this coin truly special is that it was overstruck using an original U.S. Mint coin by sculptor Daniel Carr, a well-respected figure in the numismatic community known for his high-quality private issues and fantasy overstrikes. His "DC" initials and signature style are visible on both sides of the coin, marking its authenticity and artistic lineage.

Collector's Value:
For collectors of fantasy coins, overstrikes, and Daniel Carr creations, this ANACS MS70 specimen is a must-have. Combining flawless condition, artistic creativity, and a twist on a beloved American design, it offers a conversation piece and an opportunity to own a modern collectible that blurs the lines between official minting and private artistry. Scarce in MS70, it’s a premium-grade coin that embodies innovation in numismatics.
