1962 Panama Silver 1/4 Balboa NGC MS66 Quarter Balboa Vasco Núñez de Balboa Coin

This beautifully preserved 1962 Panama 1/4 Balboa coin is a superb example of Panamanian numismatic craftsmanship. Graded MS66 by NGC, this quarter Balboa is struck in .900 fine silver, with a silver content of 6.25 grams. The coin reflects the enduring legacy of Panama’s national identity through classic design and quality silver content.

The obverse features the left-facing bust of Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the famed Spanish conquistador credited with crossing the Isthmus of Panama to the Pacific Ocean. His intricately detailed armor and helmet are flanked by laurel leaves and the inscription "UN CUARTO DE BALBOA." The reverse proudly displays the Coat of Arms of Panama, surrounded by stars and flanked by the inscriptions "REPUBLICA DE PANAMA," along with the silver fineness and weight indicators.

As part of Panama’s regular silver coinage series prior to the full switch to base metals, the 1/4 Balboa offers collectors a tangible link to mid-century Panamanian monetary policy and design continuity.

Collector's Value:
This MS66-grade quarter Balboa is an exceptional collector’s piece, offering both visual brilliance and historical significance. With fewer surviving examples in high mint state grades, this silver coin stands out in any collection of world silver or Latin American currency.
