Description

1960 Cuba 1 & 20 Pesos Set PMG 64 & 58EPQ – Banco Nacional De Cuba, American Bank Note Co.

Offered here is a beautifully preserved two-note set of 1960 Cuban Pesos issued by the Banco Nacional De Cuba and printed by the American Bank Note Company (ABNC). These two notes—1 Peso (Pick# 77b) and 20 Pesos (Pick# 80c)—are both certified by PMG, with the 1 Peso graded 64 Choice Uncirculated and the 20 Pesos receiving 58 EPQ (Choice About Unc with Exceptional Paper Quality). Together, they represent one of the final series of Cuban banknotes printed abroad before the full shift to state-controlled currency design and production following the Cuban Revolution.

Historical Significance:

These notes were printed just one year after the Cuban Revolution, during a transitional period when the Banco Nacional De Cuba still issued notes through U.S.-based ABNC before the country’s monetary system was fully restructured. Featuring leaders like Martí and Gómez, these notes reflect national pride and revolutionary identity. They also capture the end of American influence in Cuban currency production—making them important not just numismatically, but geopolitically.

The artistry of the American Bank Note Company is on full display here, with intricate intaglio work, vivid underprints, and secure layout design that ranks among the finest global banknote printing of the mid-20th century.

Collector’s Value:
This certified two-note set is a must-have for collectors of Cuban currency, Cold War-era banknotes, and ABNC collectors. With high grades, crisp paper, and rich designs, these notes are a testament to both Cuba’s revolutionary heritage and the craftsmanship of one of the world's most renowned banknote printers. A seldom-seen pair in certified holders—ideal for presentation or long-term investment.
